Client Mode
Client Mode is a simplified version of the Design Editor that allows you to edit website content without the risk of damaging its design. In this mode, you cannot modify element styles — only text, media content, and collection content can be edited.
How to Open Client Mode
You can switch to Client Mode in two ways:
1. In the Dashboard — hover over the project card and click the Client Mode button.
2. In the Design Editor — switch to Client Mode using the top panel.
When you create a new project using a template (not a blank project), the Design Editor initially opens in Client Mode. This is intended for users who want to build a website based on a template by simply replacing its content. To gain access to editing the design, switch to Designer Mode.
Currently, both modes – Designer Mode and Client Mode – are available to all users and roles. You can choose which mode to work in.
Features of Working in Client Mode
When working in Client Mode, the following capabilities and limitations apply:
- You cannot add new items/elements or view/edit the structure of the website. The left panel does not include the Items/Elements, Layers or Components tabs – only Pages, Academy, Collections, and Assets are available. You also cannot move elements on the canvas.
- You cannot change element styles or add/edit animations. The Design and Animations tabs are not available on the right panel — only the Settings tab is accessible.
- You can edit text and media content: elements such as Text, Text Link, Image, and Video, provided they are not part of complex widgets (such as Accordion, Tabs, Slider, Block list, or Menu).
Text editing is possible both on the canvas and in the settings on the right panel.
Text formatting options are also available. To use them, select the text or a portion of it — the Inline text settings will appear on the right panel, where you can adjust formatting parameters: font style (bold, semi-bold, italic, etc.), underline/strikethrough, superscript/subscript, non-breaking space, and you can also add a link to the text.
For the Image and Video widgets, you can upload a new file and edit the display settings and other parameters.
- You can edit SEO settings for elements, including enabling or disabling their indexing.
- Working with collection items is available: you can add new items/elements and edit their content, but you cannot change the collection settings (such as the collection name, existing fields and their names), nor can you delete the collection.
- Working with pages is available: you can duplicate, rename, and delete pages, as well as publish them and manage settings — edit the page name and slug, configure SEO parameters, and add custom code for the page.
- The project’s code cannot be exported.
How to Manage Editing Access for Individual Items/Elements for Client Mode
While in Designer Mode, you can specify which items/elements and widgets will be available for editing by users in Client Mode. This allows you to permit or restrict editing of individual items/elements for your clients.
This setting is available for Text, Text Link, Image, and Video elements.
To configure access: select the element, go to the Settings on the right panel and enable or disable the checkbox Allow to edit in client mode. By default, this checkbox is enabled for all applicable elements.
